“5th Singapore Film Festival 2018”Come and enjoy quality films for free!!

The Embassy of the Republic of Singapore,in cooperation with SF World Cinema, is proud to organize the“5th Singapore Film Festival 2018”,which will feature five selected award-winning Singaporean films with Thai-English subtitles. The film festival will be held from June 14-17 at SF World Cinema, Central World. All tickets to the shows will be complimentary, courtesy of the Singapore Embassy, and given out prior to each show on a first-come, first-served basis.

This is the fifth year that the Embassy of the Republic of Singapore is organizing the “Singapore Film Festival”to help strengthen Thailand – Singapore Diplomatic Relations and promote cultural exchanges between our two countries thorough films. The past four years events have been a big success with full-house reception at almost all the screenings while the selected films have also received positive reviews from renowned critics.The“5th Singapore Film Festival 2018” will showcase the arts, history, ethnic and cultural side of Singapore. This year, we have carefully selected a few quality films from the ‘Merlion City’ that the Thai and foreign audiencecan enjoy for free at every screening.

The five Singaporean films featured are: Ramen Teh After his father’s death, young chef Masato leaves his hometown in Japan and goes to Singapore in search of the truth about his past. In the process, he not only learns about his late Singaporean mother and her family, but also experiences the delightful flavours of local cuisine. He is inspired to create a new fusion dish that combines Ramen and Singapore’s iconic Bak Kut Teh (pork rib soup) – will he succeed? (*PG)

Chennai 2 Singapore, Struggling filmmaker Harish travels from Chennai to Singapore in the hope of finding a producer for his film. But soon after he lands in Singapore, he loses his passport and his prospective financier falls into a coma. As Harish stumbles through a series of hilarious misadventures, he bumps into Roshini, who is battling cancer, and is attracted to her. Will Harish reverse his bad fortune and find what his heart is searching for? (*PG)

667”  This anthology is the collective effort of five budding Singaporean film-makers. Specially commissioned by the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre, it captures their creative reflections as they embark on a journey in search of their heritage and cultural roots and how they make Singapore their home. (*Rated NC16 in Singapore)

My Love Sinema”, Set in colonial Singapore in the 1950s, this film tells the story of Kheong, a young man who moves from a village to the city in order to pursue his ambition of being a film projectionist. There, he falls in love with Wei, a young teacher who finds herself torn between her obligations as a dutiful daughter and her feelings towards Kheong. Will Kheong and Wei be able to overcome the obstacles that prevent them from being together? (*PG)

Lastly, Diamond Dogs, A stage three cancer diagnosis leaves Johnny, who is deaf and mute, with despair and desperation. With little else to lose, he agrees to join a deadly underground social experiment funded by the elites in society. The experiment pits fighters against one another in a test of animalistic aggression and adrenaline. Johnny’s battle to the top is brutal, fuelled by a fiery desire to take revenge on the man who caged him. (*R21)

The “5th Singapore Film Festival 2018” will be held from June 14-17 at SF World Cinema, Central World. Admission is free! The movies will be screened in the digital cinemas, and come with Thai subtitles. Free tickets are available for collection 30 minutes before each screening, at the “5th Singapore Film Festival 2018”  Information Counter, 7th floor, SF World Cinema @ CentralWorld.
